Tom Speers

Tom Speers’s work is characterized by his lyrical style, natural ability for casting and keen eye for photography, creating a spontaneity and poetry felt on screen.

He found breakout success with his award winning short film, “Boy Saint,” a portrait of adolescence and the longing of the human heart. The short received international acclaim and was shortlisted for a YDA at Cannes Lions, among others. Speers was also nominated for New Director of the Year at the shots Awards.  

Speers built on the momentum generated by his debut short and has emerged as one of the most sought after up-and-coming talents in commercials and music videos. His poignant spot for Vodafone and Grey London was shortlisted at the British Arrows for Best New Director.  

Most recently, Tom directed a series of spots for Swedish oat drink company, Oatly, demonstrating off his ability to capture killer performances. Tom also directed “Highlights,” a music video for fellow Irishman James Vincent McMorrow, conceived of and executed during the height of the pandemic.   Composed of portraits, time-lapse photography, as well as Super 8mm, Speers evokes a surreal, dreamlike depiction of everyday life, capturing the artist James and his daughter.  He embraced the tactile quality of film and a lo-fi aesthetic, empowering James to bring intimate details from his life as a father and musician into the story, creating an impressionistic feeling full of life and emotion.
