Lloyd Lee Choi

Lloyd Lee Choi is a Korean filmmaker who grew up in suburban Ontario. It was there, at his local theatre, that he found the magical escape of cinema at a very early age. As his passion for film grew, it was only a matter of time before he jumped into filmmaking himself. With an impeccable intuition for casting, Lloyd has a gift for capturing true snapshots of humanity and realism through a cinematic eye. He sees the collaboration and relationship between director and actor as the should of filmmaking; something that comes across strongly in the performances he’s able to bring forth.

Lloyd’s ability to find immense beauty in the ordinary and quotidian has seen him win a Silver Cannes Lions for his Cornetto campaign, and create global campaigns for GoogleChevroletSony, and McDonalds, to name a few.  He also released his first original scripted 30-minute short film, “Before Mars”, for National Geographic which is streaming on Hulu, iTunes, and Amazon.

This year, Lloyd wrote and directed the short film; Same Old. The film first premiered, and was in official competition, at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022 and continued its festival run at TIFF, New York Film Festival and Seminci. His second short, Closing Dynasty, is currently in post and was funded by a Netflix grant specifically aimed at promoting AAPI filmmakers.
